Domestic incident forces school lockdown
OAKLAND TWP — Emergency responders shut down a stretch of Bonniebrook Road in Oakland Township for much of Tuesday morning and early afternoon, and a nearby Catholic school was placed on lockdown for about two hours.
State police informed school officials that a “domestic situation involving a gun” was to blame for the nearby danger, according to Diocese of Pittsburgh spokesman the Rev. Tom Kunz. Police directed St. Wendelin School to go on lockdown, he said.
“There was no immediate threat to students,” Kunz said. “Restrooms and hallways were cleared, all the doors were locked and no one was allowed to enter or exit.”
Kunz said the lockdown occurred from about noon to 2 p.m.
Bonniebrook was closed between Route 68 and St. Wendelin Road. Firefighters on scene manning the road closure said the first to arrive had been dispatched around 9:30 a.m. The road reopened around 2 p.m.
