SRU women at 1-1 after 80-79 defeat
Slippery Rock University’s women’s basketball team led by nine in the third quarter, but dropped an 80-79 decision to Elizasbeth City State Sunday in Erie.
The lead changed hands seven times and the score was tied on six occasions.
SRU (1-1) was paced by Brooke Hinderliter’s 25 points. Ciara Patterson netted 17, including fiour treys.
Devona Stell led four ECS players in double figures with 19 points.
The Rock women won their season opener Saturday in Erie, defeating Johnson C. Smith, 71-60. SRU forced 24 turnovers in that game.
Hinderliter paced The Rock with 17 points, nine rebounds and three steals. Ciara Patterson scored 12 points — hitting four 3-pointers — and Madison Johnson had 11 points.
SRU plays its home opener at 3 p.m. Sunday against Bowie State at Morrow Field House.
Men’s Basketball
The Rock fell to 0-2 with an 82-79 loss Saturday at Fairmont State. SRU rallied from a 15-point deficit ion the first half to take a one-point lead with 37 seconds left in the game, but could not hold on.
Jared Armstrong paced five Rock players in double figures with 18 points.Micah Till had 16 points, seven rebounds and three steals.
SRU opens its home schedule at 7 p.m. Wednesday against Carlow at Morrow Field House.
