Fire department merger plan advances
All three Butler Township volunteer fire departments will be dispatched to all emergencies in the township beginning Dec. 1.
That is among the first changes that will take place with the merger of the three departments to form the Butler Township Volunteer Fire District.
“Everybody's going to get tripped out for all calls,” Kevin Kelly, chief of the township's Mercer Road Volunteer Fire Department, said at a department meeting Monday night.
Mercer Road's members voted Monday to approve the merger. The department cast its first vote in favor of the merger last month, but its bylaws required two votes.
The two other departments, the Butler Township Volunteer Fire Department District 3 and South Butler Volunteer Fire Department, approved the merger last month.
