[naviga:h3]NY could ban e-cigarettes[/naviga:h3]

ALBANY, N.Y. — New York state is taking steps to ban the sale of flavored electronic cigarettes in the hopes of curbing a sharp rise in the use of vaping products by young people, the Cuomo administration said Friday.

“As the governor previously said, he’s very concerned about the rise in youth e-cigarette use and this administration is looking to do everything it can to curb this emerging public health issue,” Richard Azzopardi, a spokesman for Democratic Gov. Andrew Cuomo, said in an email.

The state Department of Health published its proposals for banning e-cigarettes in the New York State Registry on Wednesday. The agency later withdrew them to allow more time for legal review. The regulations will be republished soon, the agency said. They could then be adopted after a 60-day period of public comment.

The Cuomo administration’s plans come as the federal government plans to require strict limits on the retail sale of most flavored e-cigarettes.

NEW YORK — Come January, the banking industry is going to be on Rep. Maxine Waters’ time.

With Democrats taking control of the House of Representatives, the California representative is expected to become chairwoman of the powerful House Financial Services Committee, which oversees the nation’s banking system and its regulators.

Waters is no friend to the nation’s biggest banks and Wall Street, and has been a vocal critic of President Donald Trump and his administration. She has called for more regulation of banks, and has opposed Trump’s political appointees moving to roll back regulations on banks and other financial services companies.
