SUMMIT TWP — A township man is wanted on charges he stole a 5- gallon water jug filled with about $2,500 in U.S. coins belonging to his grandfather.

State police Monday obtained an arrest warrant for 24-year-old Derick J. Biedenbach, who is charged with a felony count of theft.

Biedenbach is accused of taking the container of coins in late October while visiting his grandparents' home on Vogleyville Road in Summit Township.

The victim did not know the exact amount of money that was in the jug but police said he told them that he had been putting extra change in it for at least 10 years. The jug was kept in the basement.

Police estimated the coins' value at $2,500, according to court documents.

Other family members apparently suspected Biedenbach. His brother, police said, texted him, asking if he had taken the money.

The defendant advised that he “screwed up and owed money to people,” a police affidavit said.

The investigating trooper later called Biedenbach, who admitted the money was “all gone,” according to the affidavit. He also acknowledged that he had discarded the jug in the woods.

He advised the trooper, documents said, that he “could not remember the last four or five days.”

He told police that he would come in for an interview but he never showed up.
