James wins a 4th term in state House

R. Lee James

Similar numbers got Rep. R. Lee James, R-64th, a similar result in the race for a seat in the state House of Representatives.

Having served for the past six years, James defeated Democrat challenger John Kluck for his fourth term in the district which covers northeastern Butler County and all of Venango County.

James received 1,434 votes in Butler County and 9,371 in Venango County, while Kluck received 425 votes in Butler County and 4,573 in Venango County, according to unofficial results posted by county officials Tuesday night.

“It's about the same percentages as last election,” Kluck said. “When the voter turnout was larger, we thought that it wasn't going to go our way.”

Kluck said this year he tried to meet more voters in person.

“We tried a lot more personal voter contact, door to door,” Kluck said. “It seemed the Democrats just didn't come out and vote.”

Kluck said he wishes James well in his next term.

“I say congratulations to him. He ran a good campaign,” Kluck said.

He said he's planning to continue with a third contest during the next election for the district seat.

“There will be a third time. We will be running in the next election,” Kluck said.

James could not be reached for comment.
