SLIPPERY ROCK — Slippery Rock University men's basketball coach Kevin Reynolds was placed on administrative leave by the school Friday.

The move is effective immediately and will be for an indefinite period.

SRU sports information director Jon Holtz said Friday that no further details will be released on the matter. Reynolds' leave is considered a private matter by the university.

“The inquiry is being done by the university, separate from the athletic department,” SRU athletic director Paul Lueken said. “It's something I think will get done as quickly and as dilegently as possible.”

Ian Grady, an assistant coach under Reynolds for 10 years, will run the men's basketball program during his absence. SRU opens the 2018-19 season Nov. 9 against Notre Dame College at Fairmont State as part of the PSAC-MEC Challenge.

“Ian will do a good job,” Lueken said. “He recruited a lot of these kids. He knows them, has developed relationships with them.

“I think we'll be fine.”

The Rock's first home game will be Nov. 14 against Carlow at Morrow Field House.

Reynolds would be entering his 11th season as SRU men's basketball coach. He has a career record of 188-109 — a .633 winning percentage — and last year's 21-9 record marked his sixth 20-victory season.

Reynolds needs 34 wins to become the program's all-time winningest coach. He currently stands second on that list behind N. Kerr Thompson, who was 221-109 in 20 years as the program's coach.

SRU returns only one player from last year's roster — preseason All-American and first-team All-PSAC West performer Micah Hill.
