Zelienople Rotary Club seeks hosts for exchange student

ZELIENOPLE — A soon-to-be Seneca Valley exchange student is looking for a host family in the area as part of the Rotary Club of Zelienople’s youth exchange program.

The Rotary Club is accepting applications from families throughout the entire Seneca Valley School District to host one student from another country during part of the 2018-19 school year.

Many Rotary clubs have found it good to have the inbound student live with two to three families during the year, so the student gets a variety of experiences and more families can host that student with none feeling overburdened, according to a Zelienople Rotary Club news release.

Reid and Krista Moon of Zelienople recently hosted a student from Spain and spoke highly of the program.

“From the moment we scooped Lea up at the airport, she was a joy to us,” the Moons said. “Lea was very prepared to be a successful host daughter and student at Seneca Valley Senior High School. We felt that we were well prepared by our Rotary representative to provide the best exchange student experience possible.”

The Moons said “it was with tears in our eyes and full hearts that we said farewell.”

“We would highly recommend the Rotary Youth Exchange program to any family that is seriously considering hosting an exchange student.”

The exchange program offers high school students from the U.S. and other countries the opportunity to live and study in another country.

The Moons have continued to stay in touch with Lea in the year after her time living with them.

All families, even those without children, are encouraged to apply to be hosts.
