Old Home Day with the Lancaster Township Historic Records Committee is set for 1 to 4 p.m. Nov. 4 at the Middle Lancaster Community Center, Route 19, behind Sally’s Cider Press, near Harmony. This year’s program will be “The Biddle Boys — The Escape, Capture and Death of Butler County’s Most Notorious Outlaws” by storyteller Bill May. The 60-minute slide show is free. The Lancaster Historical Center is open 1 to 3 p.m. Tuesdays and Thursdays and 6 to 8 p.m. Wednesdays.

Tours of Preston Park in Butler Township, including the residence and the grounds, will be offered at 9:30 a.m. Nov. 24. This two- to three-hour walking tour is available at no cost, but registration is required. Call 724-283-3430 or 724-287-7465 or email mlove@butlertwp.org.

Harmony Museum, 218 Mercer St., will have the annual German Christmas market Nov. 10 and 11. Music, dance performances, food and vendors with a German theme are featured. Call 724-452-7341.

A Butler Ghost Walk will be conducted by Bill May at 7:30 p.m. Friday and Saturday. Stories include the ghosts of Sam Mohawk, Ghosts of the Old Hospital, the Haunted Elevator, the Chinese Laundry Murder, the Phantom Civil War Regiment, and the Girl Who Heard the Angels Sing, plus see a photo of the Ghost of the Penn Theater. Maridon Museum, 322 N. McKean St., is open 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. Wednesdays through Saturdays. Admission is $4 for adults, $3 for senior citizens and students, and free for children younger than 8 accompanied by an adult. Call 724-282-0123 or visit www.maridon.org.

Meadowcroft Rockshelter and Historic Village, Avella, Washington County, will host a Fall Finale from noon to 5 p.m. Saturday. Activities include cooking demonstrations, cornhusk crafting, and testing skills with the atlatl, a spear-thrower used by prehistoric hunters. Visitors can take part in taffy pulling parties for an additional $3 fee. Reservations are required for the taffy pulling by calling 724-587-3412. Meadowcroft admission is $15 for adults, $14 for senior citizens, and $7 for children 6 to 17.

PITTSBURGH

Carnegie Science Center, North Side, hosts ChemFest showing visitors that “Chemistry is Out of This World” from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. Friday and 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Saturday. The Lego exhibit “The Art of the Brick” continues through Jan. 7. Science center hours are 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Admission is $19.95 for adults and $11.95 for children 3 to 12. Call 412-237-3400.

National Aviary, 700 Arch St., will host Owl-o-Ween 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. Saturday, included with admission. The Wings & Wildlife Art Show returns to the aviary with a soiree and auction on Nov. 2 and public show Nov. 3 and 4. Heinz History Center, 1212 Smallman St., hosts First Man: An Evening with James R. Hansen, at 7 p.m. Nov. 1. Hansen, the author of “First Man: The Life of Neil A. Armstrong” and co-producer on the film, is the only authorized biographer of Armstrong. The exhibition “Destination Moon: The Apollo 11 Mission,” which explores the space race and Apollo mission, continues through Feb. 18. Call 412-454-6000.

Children’s Museum, Allegheny Square, is hosting “Rube Goldberg: The World of Hilarious Invention!” “Native Voices” continues through Jan. 6 and “Tough Art” through Jan. 13. Carnegie Museum of Natural History, 4400 Forbes Ave., Oakland, hosts the exhibition “Reptiles: Live!” through May 12. The Museums of Natural History and Art are open 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. daily except closed Tuesdays, plus extended hours are until 8 p.m. most Thursdays. Fort Pitt Museum in Point State Park, has extended its “From Maps to Mermaids: Carved Powder Horns in Early America” exhibition through year end.
