Butler City Council will consider a motion supporting a U.S. Constitutional Amendment banning election campaign contributions from corporations.

At council’s forum meeting Tuesday, Dane Winkler, who leads Our Revolution in Butler, which is part of the national nonprofit Our Revolution, asked council to support a resolution that seeks the amendment.

The motion will appear on the agenda for council’s regular meeting Thursday.

Winkler said 19 states and 800 municipalities have adopted the resolution in the “Move to Amend” campaign.

The U.S. Supreme Court curtailed limits on campaign contributions from corporations, giving wealthy people and corporations great influence over politicians and how they vote, Winkler said.
