Driver charged with DUI-related violations heading

CONNOQUENESSING TWP — State police on Monday charged a Butler man after he reportedly crashed his car while under the influence of several drugs.

Troopers responded to reports of a three-car crash on Aug. 25 just west of Greenwood Drive.

Upon arrival, officers spoke with Shawn Allen Johns, 46, of Butler, who told officers he had tried to pass a tractor trailer in a no-pass zone which caused the crash, documents state.

Troopers reported that Johns’ eyes appeared glassy and bloodshot and that he became “abnormally nervous” when asked if he used drugs.

Johns was transported to Butler Memorial Hospital for precautionary measures where he performed sobriety tests, documents state, which reportedly gave troopers reasons to believe he was under the influence “of a controlled substance.”

Johns then told troopers that he had taken Percocet, marijuana, meth and cocaine, documents state.

His blood was tested and was found to contain amphetamine, methamphetamine, THC, Benzoylecgonine and caffeine, according to police.

Troopers charged Johns with multiple counts of DUI and traffic violations.

A preliminary hearing is set for Nov. 20.
