State Rep. Daryl Metcalfe, R-12th, will hold two town hall meetings next week.

Beginning at 6:30 p.m., Metcalfe will host his evening Dessert with Daryl town hall Wednesday at the Penn Township Municipal Building, 157 E. Airport Road.

Metcalfe also will host a Morning Coffee & Conversation town hall at 8:30 a.m. Thursday at the Cranberry Township Municipal Center, 2525 Rochester Road.

Light refreshments will be served.

[naviga:h3]Police run school bus stop effort[/naviga:h3]

CRANBERRY TWP — Township police next week will focus on making sure motorists are stopping and yielding to school buses.

On Monday, police departments, school transportation providers and pupil transportation associations across Pennsylvania are joining PennDOT for Operation Safe Stop.

It’s a combined effort to raise driver awareness of the possible consequences and reduce the incidence of illegal passing.

Police will either follow, ride along or watch the bus from a hidden location, ticketing violators. Bus operators participating in Operation Safe Stop are provided a form to record as much information as they can about the vehicles and drivers who pass them. That information is given to local law enforcement authorities, who then issue tickets.

In Cranberry, the most frequent occurrences of passing stopped school buses take place at several points along Route 19. Police said that all traffic must stop on Route 19, which is not a divided highway.

Police said they will focus on those Route 19 stops and ticket violators. If convicted, a motorist could receive a $250 fine, five points on their driving record, and a 60-day suspension of their driver’s license.

SLIPPERY ROCK — A free Haunted House with live actors, scary scenes, flashing lights and fog is being offered from 7 to 10 p.m. Wednesdays through Saturdays until Halloween at 127 N. Main St.

The event, open to the community, is being hosted by Slippery Rock Towing and Repair.
