[naviga:h3]Rotary hosts comedy show[/naviga:h3]

The Butler AM Rotary is holding a comedy show on Oct. 27 to raise money for its “Save the Playground” fund.

Three comedians will perform at the Vagabond Center on Whitestown Road in Lyndora for a show for adults to raise money for the fund, which is used to pay for new equipment and improvements at Memorial Park in Butler.

Derrick Knopsnyder, John Knight and David Kaye will take the stage at 8 p.m. Doors open at 6 p.m., and dinner begins at 7 p.m. There will be games of chance and a gift basket raffle. Halloween costumes are optional.

Tickets cost $45 and cover appetizers, buffet dinner, refreshments and the performance. Tickets can be bought with cash or check at May’s Music Shoppe on East Jefferson Street, Alliance for Nonprofit Resources on South Main Street, and Minuteman Press on Hollywood Drive. Pulling Out All the Stops, a community organ concert featuring Rebecca Veith, is planned for 3 p.m. Sunday at St. Mark’s Evangelical Lutheran Church, 201 W. Jefferson St. A reception will follow.

Monster Bash, the international classic monster movie conference and film festival, has a three-day event Friday through Sunday at the DoubleTree by Hilton Hotel Pittsburgh-Cranberry, 910 Sheraton Drive, Marshall Township, Allegheny County.

Monster Bash features screenings of classic films and television shows, question-and-answer sessions with celebrities, music, and monster movie memorabilia.

Special guests will include Patrick Wayne, son of the late John Wayne and an actor in his own right, and Linda Miller, who starred in “King Kong Escapes!”

Five county residents are taking part in the 24th annual Pennsylvania Arts & Crafts Christmas Festival Friday through Sunday and Oct. 27 and 28 at the Washington County Fairgrounds in Washington, Pa.

Participating are Carol Fleming and Lisa Tracy, both of Butler; Manuela Branem of Sarver; and Reed and Kim Richards of Mars.

Hours are 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Friday, 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. Saturdays, and 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Sundays.

[naviga:h3]‘Music Man’ scheduled[/naviga:h3]

Sing Hosanna! will stage Meredith Wilson’s “The Music Man” Nov. 9 to 11 at the Succop Theater at Butler County Community College.

Curtain is at 7:30 p.m. Nov. 9 and 10 and at 2 p.m. Nov. 11.

Tickets are $15 and are available at May’s Music Shoppe and at the door. Seats are not reserved.

[naviga:h3]Old Home Day readied[/naviga:h3]

Old Home Day with the Lancaster Township Historic Records Committee is set for 1 to 4 p.m. Nov. 4 at the Middle Lancaster Community Center, Route 19 behind Sally’s Cider Press, near Harmony.

This year’s program will be “The Biddle Boys — The Escape, Capture and Death of Butler County’s Most Notorious Outlaws” by storyteller Bill May.

The lives of Ed and Jack Biddle and Katherine Soffel, the woman who help the brothers escape from prison, and their shootout with police halfway between Mount Chestnut and Prospect will be discussed.

The 60-minute slide show is free.

The Lancaster Historical Center is open 1 to 3 p.m. Tuesdays and Thursdays and 6 to 8 p.m. Wednesdays.
