Martini Pop at SRU: Pop meets swing
Four Grammy-nominated vocalists backed by a jazz combo will perform at Slippery Rock University on Nov. 2 as part of the university’s Performing Arts Series.
Pop meets swing with a big band sound as the group’s performances feature retro versions of radio hits from Sinatra to Lionel Richie to Taylor Swift and many more of the most popular musicians.
Martini Pop has performed at Universal Orlando, Walt Disney World and performing arts centers around the country.
The quartet of singers includes married couple Jeremy James and Shalisa James as well as Michelle Knight and Sean Gerrity.
Jeremy James won the Contemporary A Cappella Society of America’s award for best songwriter.
Shalisa James is an arranger and performer whose voice can be heard on more than 500 jingles.
Bandleader and co-producer Paul Vesco has worked in Las Vegas and Atlantic City.
The show will begin at 7:30 p.m. in the University Union.
The Performing Arts Series continues Nov. 17 with “A Swingin’ Holiday Affair,” starring vocalist Steve Lippia and featuring the SRU Jazz Ensemble in a mix of holiday cheer and jazz and swing standards.
