State Grange Convention coming to Cranberry Twp.

The 146th Pennsylvania State Grange Convention will be held Oct. 19 to 21, at the Pittsburgh Marriott North Hotel in Cranberry Township.

“The convention brings people from across the state to discuss and adopt policies for the Pennsylvania State Grange and to review issues to be forwarded to the National Grange Convention in November,” said Wayne Campbell, state grange president. He said 300 delegates are expected to attend to represent their subordinate granges.

A tour of Chatham University's Eden Hall Campus to view an operating aquaponics system will be held Oct. 8. The tour costs $10 and tickets can be purchased by calling Richard Mangel. The bus to Chatham leaves the hotel at 1 p.m. The tour is open to the public.

Russell Redding, secretary of the state Department of Agriculture, will address the delegates at 4 p.m. Oct. 20. Barry Kukovich of Peoples Gas will discuss contained environmental agriculture in the Netherlands, food production and energy, the Food21 Project and how it impacts farmers. His presentations is also open to the public.

The convention includes exhibits of quilt squares, wreaths, artwork, photography, scrapbooking, recycled crafts and baked goods. Competitions include a sign-a-song and impromptu and prepared speeches.
