A book launch will feature author Linda Schmitmeyer discussing her new book, “Rambler: A family pushes through the fog of mental illness,” from 4 to 6 p.m. Sept. 29 at Mars Public Library. Maridon Museum, 322 N. McKean St., will have a Harvest Moon celebration from 5:30 to 11 p.m. Sept. 28 at the Butler Country Club. Dinner, dancing and a performance by Yanlai Dance Academy are planned. Music will be provided by the TMG Big Band. Doors open at 5:30 p.m. followed by hors d’oeuvres at 6 p.m. and dinner stations starting at 7 p.m. Tickets at the door will be $125. Black tie is optional. Call 724-282-0123.

Meadowcroft Rockshelter and Historic Village, 401 Meadowcroft Road, Avella, Washington County, will host a Frontier Heritage Weekend on Saturday and Sunday with extended hours of 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. each day. Visitors can get a first-hand look at the everyday lives of 18th-century frontier tradesmen and discover the skills necessary to survive in the wilderness. PITTSBURGH
Heinz History Center, 1212 Smallman St., will launch the exhibition “Destination Moon: The Apollo 11 Mission” on Sept. 29. The traveling exhibition explores the Space Race and Apollo 11 mission, when astronaut Neil Armstrong became the first human to walk on the Moon on July 20, 1969. Call 412-454-6000.
Fort Pitt Museum, Point State Park, has extended its “From Maps to Mermaids: Carved Powder Horns in Early America” exhibition through the end of the year. Museum admission is $8 for adults, $7 for senior citizens, $2 off admission for retired and active military, and $4.50 for children 6-17. The museum is open 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. daily.
