Historic mansions walking tour Saturday
“Historic Mansions of Butler Walking Tour” will be presented by Bill May at 6 p.m. Saturday.
The 20 homes, which will be toured from the outside, are in the historic neighborhood of North McKean, East Fulton and East Pearl streets.
“I have lived in this neighborhood my entire life and was always interested in the people who built and lived in these homes,” May said.
He gave the tour once before and will conduct the same tour again next summer, he said.
Participants will hear the stories of the builders of these beautifully preserved homes including Elm Court as well as their connections to Abraham Lincoln, Mark Twain and John D. Rockefeller.
“The stories recall the glory days of Butler and include stories from the Underground Railroad, the Civil War, connections to famous people and even a murder,” May said.
The 90-minute tour will cover less than a mile.
Cost is $12 per person, and reservations and advanced payment are required by calling 724-256-9026 or emailing ButlerWalkingTour@gmail.com.
