Warriors rush for 300 yards, take down Kane on the road

Moniteau football coach Bob Rottman referred to his team's opening stretch of games as “the gauntlet”.

Included was Friday's long road trip to Kane, where the Wolves had not lost a home game in nearly four years. The hosts are now licking their wounds.

The Warriors denied Kane on a two-point conversion attempt with just over a minute remaining as Moniteau pulled off a 14-13 upset.

The Wolves trailed 14-7 late, but blocked Moniteau's field goal attempt and returned it for a touchdown. Kane then lined up to kick the extra point, but opted for two points following an encroachment penalty on the Warriors.

“They tried to pass it and we stopped it,” said Rottman, who saw an inspired effort out of his defense. “They could not run the ball on us. Then they tried to pass and our rush got after them. Our front seven was tremendous.”

Moniteau's defense broke the ice when Chance Nagy returned an interception 65 yards for a touchdown in the second quarter. Kane, however, had taken a 7-6 lead by halftime.

The deciding score came on Cody Wise's 60-yard scoring run in the second half. Wise rushed for 160 of Moniteau's 306 yards on the ground.

“Our line dominated on both sides of the ball,” said Rottman. “This win is something for us to build on.”

Slippery Rock 27, General McLane 14 — Kaleb Kamerer's 3-yard touchdown run broke a 14-14 tie in the third quarter as the Rockets earned this victory in Edinboro.

Vito Pilosi gave the Rockets a 6-0 lead late in the first quarter with a 35-yard touchdown run. He later picked up a fumble deep in Rocket territory before pitching the ball to Ethan Plesakov, who completed the 95-yard return for a score.

Kamerer added an 80-yard scoring jaunt late in the fourth quarter.
