A weekend of jazz is planned in Harmony.
It all starts Friday night at the new music venue, The Harmony Underground in the wine cellar (circa 1807) of the recently opened Lagerhaus Bakery, 534 Main St.
Jazz pianist Tom Roberts of Pittsburgh and a few guests will be featured downstairs at 7 p.m. Call ahead for tickets at 724-584-6850. There will be also jazz music in the outside garden at 6 p.m.
Saturday night will feature a good old Jazz Jam at 7 p.m. at the historic Mennonite Meeting House on Wise Road just off Route 19. Bench and lawn seating is available. Get tickets at the show. High school band students can take their instruments to get in free. A portion of the proceeds will be shared with Historic Harmony. For more information, call 412-867-1816.
The closing event for the Jazz Weekend 2018 will be Sunday afternoon, grooving to the music of CATRO on the open-air patio at the Harmony Inn from 4 to 7 p.m. Call 724-452-5124 for more information.

Beer cans featuring area artist Tom Panei’s work will be released at 6 p.m. Thursday at Butler Brew Works.
His artwork will appear on Mosaic Mirage beer.
Additionally, Panei will be playing acoustic music at 7 p.m.
[naviga:h3]Saxonburg arts festival coming[/naviga:h3]
The 33rd Saxonburg Festival of the Arts is planned for Sept. 8 and 9 this year in Roebling Park and around the town.
Since the first festival in 1986, this annual tradition has attracted visitors to the arts and crafts, music, and food. A photography contest takes place from 11 a.m. to 6 p.m. Sept. 8 and noon to 5 p.m. Sept. 9 at the Saxonburg Memorial Presbyterian Church, corner of Main and Rebecca Streets.

[naviga:h3]Annual farm tour scheduled[/naviga:h3]
The Butler County Farm Tour will feature five farms on Sept. 15.
From 10 a.m. to 4 p.m., area residents take part in this free, drive-it-yourself tour of these farms which are in the southern part of the county.
This family friendly event offers activities ranging from petting alpacas, learning about horses, drone demonstrations and an exhibit of 200 antique pedal tractors. Several farms will offer food tastings and have items available for purchase.

Participating farms and businesses of the 2018 tour include Asgard Acres Alpaca Farm, Har-Lo Farms, Jones Turkey Farm, Silver Quest Equestrian and Thiele Farm. An additional stop is Speckled Hen Chocolate Co., where there will be several hands-on chocolate demonstrations.

[naviga:h3]Symphony to honor 3[/naviga:h3]
The Butler County Symphony Association has selected three recipients for its first awards celebration. The honorees are Janice Larrick, Charles Norton, and the Butler School District.
They will be honored at a dinner, “Symphony Platinum: 70 Years in the Making,” at 6:30 p.m. Sept. 14 at the Butler Country Club.
The awards have been established to honor those who have made outstanding contributions to the symphony.
The celebration will include a cocktail hour with cash bar, dinner, performances by the Strolling Strings and Vince Tavolario, and the awards presentation. Tickets are $70 per person. Reservations can be made by calling 724-822-7585 or emailing bcsa70th@gmail.com.

Friends of the Library will host a Mars Area Home Tour from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. Sept. 8. The tour will include at least eight historic and character homes in the Mars, Adams and Middlesex townships, and Valencia areas. Proceeds benefit the Mars Public Library. [naviga:h3]Stoneboro Fair turning 150[/naviga:h3] In its 150th year, the Stoneboro Fair starts Wednesday and runs through Labor Day this year. Visitors can expect livestock and agricultural judging and displays, food, a lumberjack show, kid’s events, harness racing, midway rides, tractor pulls, a demolition derby and fireworks. Admission is $10 per person, which includes parking, grandstand seat, midway rides and center field shows. Children younger than 2 are admitted free. [naviga:h3]Maridon marks autumn[/naviga:h3] Celebrate the Maridon and the Harvest Moon from 5:30 to 11 p.m. Sept. 28 with an observance of the autumnal equinox which coincides with the Mid-Autumn Festival celebrated throughout Asia. Dinner, dancing and a performance by Yanlai Dance Academy will all take place at the Butler Country Club. Music will be provided by the TMG Big Band. Doors open at 5:30 p.m. followed by hors d’oeuvres at 6 p.m. and dinner stations starting at 7 p.m. Tickets are $100 if purchased by Sept. 17. Tickets at the door will be $125. Black tie is optional.
