Thursday — Police charged Robert A. Branca, 37, of Butler, with theft by deception and receiving stolen property after he allegedly cashed three checks at Walmart that had been previously deposited electronically.
4:47 p.m. Thursday — Police said Dean Weiland, 63, of Butler was driving east on New Castle Road when his Subaru Impreza went onto the berm and hit a road sign, jumped a curb and hit a vehicle parked in the parking lot of Sharp Shopper. Police said after the Impreza hit that vehicle, it traveled back across New Castle Road and came to rest in the rock landscaping in front of Wendy’s.
Police said Weiland suffered injuries of unknown severity and was taken to Butler Memorial Hospital. Daniel Ogle, 40, of Fenelton had been inside the parked vehicle which was hit by the Impreza, but was able to escape the vehicle before the crash and was not injured.
4:31 p.m. Thursday — Police said Richard Gallmberti, 31, of Indiana, Pa., was driving south on Hansen Avenue when he attempted to make a U-turn at the intersection with Whitestown Road and pulled into the path of a vehicle driven by Seth Queen, 20, of Butler, who was also driving south on Hansen Avenue. Police said Queen’s vehicle sustained moderate damage in the crash. No one was hurt.

Tuesday — A Lawrence County man was arraigned on drugged driving and other charges in connection with a traffic stop last week in Jackson Township. Police said Daniel C. Leasher, 31, of Volant was stopped Thursday night for driving erratically on Interstate 79.
Leasher, who denied taking any controlled substances, refused to take a portable breath test and was arrested, according to court documents. Later, he also refused a drug recognition expert’s evaluation.
Police searched the defendant’s vehicle and found a bag containing 28 empty stamp bags of suspected heroin and other contraband.
Leasher was arraigned on charges of driving under the influence of a controlled substance, possession of drug paraphernalia, disregarding traffic lanes, careless driving and reckless driving. He was placed in the Butler County Prison on $5,000 bail following arraignment.
