[naviga:h3]Apollo 11 exhibit coming[/naviga:h3]
As the nation commemorates the 49th anniversary of the Apollo 11 moon landing, visitors can soon see dozens of flown objects from the historic mission at the Senator John Heinz History Center’s upcoming exhibition, “Destination Moon: The Apollo 11 Mission,” which launches Sept. 29.
The History Center is one of just four museums nationally and the only site east of the Mississippi River to host the Smithsonian traveling exhibition, which explores the Space Race and Apollo 11 mission, when astronaut Neil Armstrong became the first human to walk on the moon on July 20, 1969.
The exhibit includes the Command Module Columbia, the only portion of the spacecraft to complete the first mission.
The exhibit will also showcase how Pittsburgh innovators and companies played a crucial role in the success of the Apollo space program.
Tickets will be available starting at 9 a.m. Aug. 1 at www.heinzhistorycenter.org/moon. The exhibit is included with regular admission of $18 for adults; $15 for senior citizens age 62 and older and active duty and retired military; $9 for students and children ages 6 to 17; and free for children 5 and younger.
The Destination Moon exhibit will be on display through Feb. 18.
