BlueSox drop 5-inning game
CHILLICOTHE, Ohio — In a game shortened by rain, Chillicothe plated two runs in the bottom of the fifth inning in a 2-1 defeat of the visiting Butler BlueSox in Prospect League baseball play Friday night.
Butler led 1-0 entering the bottom of the fifth. Tre Thomas, Butler’s only pitcher in the game, then allowed a pair of solo home runs. The first was a leadoff blast from Dan McCauley that tied the score.
With two outs, Chad Roberts put the Paints (26-20) up for good.
Thomas got out of the inning with no further damage, but play was halted before Butler could bat in the sixth and was later ruled an official game.
Thomas struck out five and walked four while allowing the two runs on just three hits.
The Sox (19-28) took a brief lead in the top of the fifth inning when Ray Scala scored on a wild pitch from eventual winning pitcher Michael Jacob.
Butler plays at Chillicothe Saturday and hosts West Virginia on Sunday.
