Moraine State Park, Muddy Creek Township, will be the site of afull moon kayaking event at 8 p.m. July 27; registration is now open. Call the park office at 724-368-8811. A program on “Fireflies!” is set for 8 p.m. Thursday at Pavilion 5 in the Lakeview Area. And Muddy Creek Oil Well demonstrations will go on from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. Aug. 11 at the central powerhouse beyond the State Parks Region 2 office, 195 Park Road, Prospect.

McConnells Mill State Park in Slippery Rock Township, Lawrence County off Route 422, has the gristmill open from 10:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. Tuesdays through Sundays through Labor Day. Admission, parking and tours are free. “Pebbles, Boulders, and Rocks!” is planned for 10 a.m. Saturday at the Kildoo Picnic Area. And “Crayfishing” will take place at 4 p.m. Saturday from the Hells Hollow Trail parking lot.

Star Parties, sponsored by the Amateur Astronomers Association of Pittsburgh, will begin at about 8:45 p.m. Friday and Saturday, weather permitting, at the Nicholas E. Wagman Observatory in Deer Lakes Regional Park, near the village of Russellton, Frazer Township, Allegheny County. Call 724-224-2510. Mars Parties are planned for 8:40 p.m. July 27 and 28.
