BlueSox bested by Miners, 6-3

BECKLEY, W.Va. — The Butler BlueSox continued to struggle Thursday night, dropping a 6-3 Prospect League baseball decision at West Virginia.

Trailing 4-0, the Sox got back in the game with three runs in the top of the seventh. Knoch graduate Chris Law had an RBI-double and scored in the inning.

But the Miners added to their lead with two runs in the bottom of the inning, chasing Butler reliever Anthony Rini from the mound in the process.

West Virginia (10-3) scored single tallies in the first, second, fourth and sixth frames. All four runs (three earned) were charged to starting pitcher and Knoch graduate Alex Stobert, who struck out four, walked two and gave up four hits in 5 2/3 innings.

The BlueSox (3-9) committed four errors in the game. Offensively, they tallied seven hits with five doubles from five different players — Grant Hannant, Kellen Sarver, Mike McGee, Ray Scala and Law.

Butler hosts Kokomo Friday at 7:05 p.m.
