BlueSox defeated by Miners, 13-7
BECKLEY, W.Va. — An error in each of the first three innings doomed the Butler BlueSox in a 13-7 Prospect League baseball defeat at West Virginia Wednesday night.
The miscues were not kind to Butler starting pitcher Jake Stout, who was pulled two outs into the third frame. He was charged with eight runs, though only two were earned. Stout surrendered eight hits with one strikeout and three walks.
He took the mound in the bottom of the first inning with a 3-0 lead following Colton Carney’s 3-run home run in the top of the inning. But the Miners went on to score 11 runs over the first three innings and were never threatened.
Andrew Chuba, Chris Law, Kellen Sarver and Ray Scala each had two hits for the Sox, who had 13 hits in the game.
Following Stout, Sean Kealey, Nick Mancuso and Daniel Patrice each pitched for Butler.
Trevor Reynolds got the win for West Virginia despite allowing four runs on seven hits.
West Virginia (9-3) hosts Butler (3-8) Thursday night.
