PENN TWP — A distracted driver was blamed for a Monday morning rear-end wreck on Route 8 at Dinnerbell Road that left a woman injured.

Gage Moore, 21, of Sarver was northbound on Route 8 about 7:20 a.m. when the Ford Contour he was driving slammed into the back of a Chevrolet Equinox that was stopped in traffic at a red light, according to Penn Township police.

He told investigators that he was “reaching for something,” said police Sgt. Cheryl Cranmer, and momentarily looked away.

Ruth Pfeifer, 69, of Valencia, who was driving the Chevy sport utility vehicle, complained of neck and head pain after the wreck, Cranmer said.

Pfeifer, who was wearing a seat belt, was taken to UPMC Passavant hospital in Cranberry Township with apparent minor injuries.

Moore was not wearing a seat belt but his air bag deployed. His car was severely damaged. The SUV sustained moderate damage. Both vehicles were towed.

The crash reduced traffic on the busy road from five lanes to one. The road reopened to normal traffic shortly after 8 a.m.

Penn Township volunteer firefighters assisted police at the scene.

Cranmer said it has not been determined if charges would be filed.
