Emergency crews had to use Narcan during a pair of unrelated weekend overdose calls in Butler.

A 37-year-old man was unconscious about 2 p.m. Saturday after rescuers were called to a home on the 300 block of Virginia Avenue, authorities said.

Butler firefighters began cardiopulmonary resuscitation and a Butler Ambulance Service crew administered the opioid antidote Narcan, said fire Capt. Tom Fair.

The man was revived but he refused further medical treatment at the hospital.

About 18 hours earlier, a 28-year-old man was reportedly unresponsive after suffering an apparent overdose in the 200 block of East Penn Street, authorities said.

Someone was performing CPR on the man on the porch of a home when fire crews got there, Fair said.

Firefighters took over life-saving measures and administered Narcan before the man regained consciousness. He, too, refused further hospital treatment.

Earlier Saturday, crews were called shortly before 3:30 a.m. to a home in the 400 block of West North Street where a 34-year-old man had reportedly overdosed on heroin and was passed out.

But by the time fire crews got there, authorities said, the man was conscious and he declined medical treatment.
