After an eight-inch water main broke in Evans City, residents were left without water.

Changes may be coming to Evans City's ordinances after last month's water line break which led to a water outage across the borough.

Ed Tanski, Evans City Water and Sewer Authority chairman, gave council an update on the break at Monday's meeting, saying that the problem was exacerbated by a pool that was built over it, straining the line and making it difficult for crews to access it and make repairs.

“We're figuring there was probably over 20,000 pounds of water less than 5 feet above that line and the pressure on it and so forth wasn't helping the issue,” he said. “Plus when we had our equipment and our men in the ditch trying to repair the ditch, the pool started to slide in on us.”

Ultimately, the crews were able to drain and remove the pool and fix the line, but Tanski said they'd prefer not to repeat the experience.
