Strawberry Days offers a fun time in Grove City

Event organizers have made some minor tweaks since last year's Strawberry Days Festival in Grove City.

GROVE CITY — The food tent will be stuffed this weekend at the 28th annual Strawberry Days Festival.

The event takes place all day from Friday to Sunday at Memorial Park in Grove City.

Mary Kay Maddox, the festival chairwoman, said the festival has had more vendors over the last few years, but they have never maxed out like they will be this year.

“This year, we have all 20 food booths taken,” Maddox said.

Maddox said having more vendors boosts their variety, which is structured by the festival's committee.

“We have everything from your sandwich to french fries to desserts,” she said. “Every booth has a different food item, and there's not any duplication.”

Maddox said they are adding more sports games and creating a Sports Lot, where visitors can test their skills.

The games are run by Grove City High School athletes, the dunking contest by the girl's softball team, the hoop shoot by the boy's basketball team and putting greens by the golf teams.

Maddox said the event will feature some new craft vendors too, and there will be plenty of opportunities for the kids, like caricatures, balloon artists and face painting.

“We try to have as much free as possible, so the parents don't spend a lot of money,” she said.

Maddox said the festival is a place for residents and visitors to have some fun and unwind.

“It's more or less to provide an entertainment for Grove City and the surrounding Tri-State area,” she said.

Maddox said the event gets visitors from Ohio, West Virginia and New York in addition to statewide travelers.

She said the event has not changed much in its history because people seem to like the way the festival is presented.

“It's one of those festivals, that when it's not broken, you don't fix it,” Maddox said.
