CRANBERRY TWP — A man with three prior convictions for retail theft is facing charges after a weekend incident.

According to court documents, Christopher R. Vogel, 32, of Pittsburgh, is charged with felony retail theft after an incident Friday at Kohl’s in Cranberry Township. The complaint states officers arrived and spoke to a loss prevention associate. The associate said he observed Vogel select a Fitbit watch from the rack and enter a fitting room with it and other clothing items.

Vogel allegedly removed the security device on the package and exited the room and went to the men’s clothing section of the store, the complaint states. There, he allegedly discarded a pair of shorts and concealed the watch package inside his shorts.

Vogel left the store and was confronted by the loss prevention associate, the complaint states. He willingly returned to the store, and the complaint indicates the watch was returned. Restitution for the watch, valued at $329.99, was not needed since it was returned. According to court documents, bond was set at $20,000 by Judge David T. Kovach, with a preliminary hearing set for June 8.

Court records indicate Vogel has three prior convictions for retail theft, according to the complaint. Those cases took place in Allegheny County, where Vogel has two additional cases pending.

In one he is charged with two counts of felony retail theft and two misdemeanor counts of receiving stolen property. A hearing on those charges, filed Feb. 24 by the Upper St. Clair Police Department, is scheduled for June 21.

A second set of charges, including felony retail theft and conspiracy to commit retail theft and a misdemeanor charge of prohibited acts, was filed by the Bethel Park Police Department May 5. A hearing is set for July 12.
