POPPY TRADITION
The first “Buddy Poppy” for 1966 is sold that May to Francis A. (Scotty) Leith, chairman of the Poppy Day Committee of the Veterans of Foreign Wars, by his grandson, Thomas Leith, 4, son of Mr. and Mrs. Francis Leith. The VFW and its auxiliary had sponsored the poppy sale since 1921, with proceeds going to help disabled and needy veterans and their families.
