[naviga:h3]Baranchak earns player of year honor[/naviga:h3]

ERIE — Butler graduate Luke Baranchak, a sophomore shortstop on the Mercyhurst North East baseball team, has been named Western New York Athletic Conference Player of the Year.

Baranhak, who recently committed to Mercyhurst University to extend his career, hit .365 this season with 50 hits, nine doubles, seven triples, four homers, 40 RBI and 27 stolen bases.

[naviga:h3]SV grad Schnatterly PAC pitcher of year[/naviga:h3]

WASHINGTON — Seneca Valley graduate Bryce Schnatterly, a senior on the Washington & Jefferson College baseball team, has been named Presidents’ Athletic Conference Pitcher of the Year.

The right-hander was 7-0 this season with a 1.98 earned run average. His ERA led the league, his win total tied for first in the circuit and his 54 strikeouts were third-most in the conference.

[naviga:h3]BC3 finishes 2nd in Region XX golf[/naviga:h3]

The Butler County Community College golf team finished second in the Region XX tournament, which concluded Tuesday on The Links at Spring Church.

Anne Arundel (Md.) won the tourney with a 643. The Pioneers were second with 678. BC3 golfers Michael Rozzi (Neshannock) and Noah Morgan (A-C Valley) placed fourth and seventh individually and earned berths in the NJCAA National Tournament in Chautauqua, N.Y., June 3-8.

Rozzi carded a 79-76-155, Morgan an 84-80-164. Morgan won a one-hole playoff for the final national qualifying spot. BC3’s third-best golfer, Anthony Lewis of Butler, missed the tourney with a hand injury.

[naviga:h3]GCC track athletes join ECAC tourney[/naviga:h3]

GROVE CITY — Three Butler County area athletes — now competing on the Grove City College track and field team — have qualified for the Eastern College Athletic Conference (ECAC) Division III Championships, set this week at Johns Hopkins University.

Moniteau graduate Stephen Hagg will compete in the pole vault, Seneca Valley graduate Maty Zeckzer on the Wolverines’ 4x400 meter relay, and A-C Valley graduate Erin Logue in the javelin.
