City woman pleads guilty to letting dealer use home
A Butler woman pleaded guilty Wednesday to allowing a Philadelphia man deal drugs out of her home in Butler.
Chelsey L. Schlagel, 23, pleaded guilty to felony conspiracy to possession with intent to deliver a controlled substance before Butler County Judge William Shaffer.
The plea agreement calls for a sentence of four years in the county Intermediate Punishment Program, with the first nine months on house arrest with electronic monitoring. She also will be ordered to pay restitution, fines and court costs, as well as complete a drug and alcohol evaluation and any recommended treatment, when she is sentenced June 13.
The Butler County Drug Task Force filed the charges after an investigation into drug-related activity.
During an undercover drug operation involving Nafis A. Brown, 25, of Philadelphia, police said they began surveillance on a home in the 500 block of Fairground Hill Road that was known to be frequented by Brown. Police said the home was rented by Schlagel.
On Oct. 2, Brown was seen exiting the home, getting into a vehicle and driving away. Police conducted a traffic stop for illegal window tinting, and Brown was found to be driving on a suspended license and possessing heroin. Brown was arrested and the task force, in turn, obtained a search warrant for the house.
Inside the home were Anthony L. Williams, 27, who police said was a native of Philadelphia and Schlagel. Found at the home, documents said, was a book bag, which police said belonged to Brown and contained about 24 grams of crack, $5,380 in currency and drug packaging materials.
Officers also found Williams with $455 in currency and seized three more cell phones and a scale during the search, police said.
When asked during the proceeding by her attorney, Samir Hadeed, if she was aware of the drug activity occurring in the home, Schlagel responded “yes.”
Brown later pleaded guilty March 14 to three felony counts of possession with intent to deliver a controlled substance, and one count of conspiracy to commit possession with intent to deliver a controlled substance in three cases and was sentenced to a total of 2 to 5 years in a state correctional facility.
Williams' charges were later dismissed.
