YMCA offering diabetes program

The Butler YMCA is partnering with the Centers for Disease Control and Adagio Health to provide a diabetes prevention program.

The initiative is a one-year program where participants learn how to reduce their risk for diabetes through weight loss and physical activity.

Classes will be from 6 to 7:30 p.m. weekly beginning June 4 for 26 weeks, then bimonthly for the remainder of the year, at the Butler YMCA, 339 N. Washington St.

An optional 30-minute workout will be included with each class.

The program promotes lifestyle changes that can lead to reducing by half the risk of developing type 2 diabetes.

The program is open to people diagnosed with prediabetes as a result of blood tests or have risk factors associated with type 2 diabetes.

Informational screening sessions can be scheduled by contacting Aaron Hochmann, YMCA healthy living director, at ahochmann@bcfymca.org or 724-287-4733, Ext. 147.

Registration is limited to 20 participants. The cost is $249 for YMCA members and $349 for nonmembers.

Nonmembers will receive a YMCA membership during enrollment.
