Judge revokes bail for suspect
An Allegheny County man saw his bail revoked in Butler County Court on Wednesday after allegedly being charged in another case against the same victim, which was later dismissed.
Eric L. Barlow, 27, of West Mifflin, is now being held in Butler County Prison on $50,000 bail after the previously-posted bail was revoked by President Judge Thomas Doerr.
Barlow was charged with felony aggravated assault, misdemeanor simple assault and strangulation after an incident on Sept. 2.
Butler police said Barlow choked his girlfriend during a domestic dispute at her apartment on Pillow Street. The woman reported that she and Barlow got into an argument at about 1:45 a.m. after they returned to her home from a Butler Township bar. She said Barlow choked her to the point that she could not breathe, according to court documents.
She later told Barlow to leave, but he came at her again, documents said, and hit her in the side of the head. Police said the victim had marks on her neck but refused medical treatment.
Bail was set at $35,000, which was posted Sept. 19.
Assistant District Attorney Terri Schultz said conditions of that bail included Barlow having no contact with the woman and not being at the Pillow Street home. But on March 27 Barlow was arrested and charged with misdemeanor simple assault by Butler police, in an incident that involved the same woman at the Pillow Street residence.
That charge was later dismissed after the woman failed to appear at a preliminary hearing, Schultz told the court. However, the Butler County Adult Probation Department had also filed a pretrial supervision revocation scheduled for May 11.
Barlow's attorney, Assistant Public Defender Charles Nedz, said his client had moved to West Mifflin and has had no contact with the woman.
“He has been nothing but respectful, very courteous and easy to work with,” Nedz said.
