2 men arrested after brass knuckle attack
CLAY TWP — Two Butler County men are accused in a brass knuckle beating that left another man with a broken jaw.
State police arrested Robert M. Codispot Jr., 29, of Clay Township and Joshua A. Fajohn, 28, of West Liberty on felony assault and other charges stemming from the Friday morning altercation at Codispot's home on Muddy Creek Drive.
Both defendants are free on $30,000 bail each.
Police said they spoke to the victim, Justin Angerett, about 7 a.m. at Butler Memorial Hospital, where he went for treatment of injuries following the suspected assault.
Angerett told investigators that the alleged beating was connected to another incident earlier that morning, which state police also investigated, according to court documents.
Angerett recounted that he was driving a friend's vehicle in which Codispot was a passenger “because he was intoxicated,” a police affidavit said.
Police, Angerett said, pulled him over and subsequently searched the vehicle, turning up pain pills. The traffic stop happened about 3 a.m. on Main Street in Slippery Rock.
Charging documents did not indicate the reason for the stop.
But Angerett said he was later arrested, according to the affidavit, and taken to Butler Memorial Hospital for a blood draw.
During the stop, documents said, the alleged victim told police that the pills they found belonged to Codispot.
Eventually, Fajohn arrived at the hospital to pick up Angerett and Codispot. He drove them all back to Codispot's house.Once there, Angerett said he was punched in the face with brass knuckles while his back was turned, according to the affidavit. He reportedly did not see who punched him.He fell to the ground, documents said, and “Fajohn proceeded to kick him about his body.” Fajohn, he recounted, also “picked him up and threw him in his own vehicle. ”Angerett apparently drove himself to the hospital. Documents noted he was struck on the right side of the face and suffered a broken jaw but it was not known if that was the full extent of his injuries.Both defendants were arraigned Friday on charges of aggravated assault, possessing instruments of crime, possessing a prohibited offensive weapon, simple assault and harassment.Preliminary hearings are set for April 24 at the office of District Judge Lewis Stoughton in Chicora.No charges were immediately filed in connection with the earlier traffic stop, and police said a report was not available.
