Practice pays off for Butler golfer Folk
BUTLER TWP — Chipping contests in the backyard pay off.
At least, they have for Butler senior Hannah Folk.
A four-year member of the Golden Tornado women's golf team, Folk recently signed a letter of intent to continue her academic and golf career at St. Francis (Pa.) University.
Folk becomes the second Butler girls golfer to move on to a Division I college program. Marissa DeCola accepted a scholarship to Indiana of the Big Ten in 2012.
Folk averaged 40.8 per nine holes for Butler last fall.
Folk plans to study toward becoming a physician assistant “and they have an excellent program for that,” she said.
St. Francis is coached by Lisa Warrilow, a four-time All-North East Conference golfer who led Farleigh Dickinson to four NEC championships.
The Red Flash had seven golfers on the roster last season, but only one senior. St. Francis won seven NEC titles in a 10-year period from 1998 through 2007.
Folk's immediate goal is to contribute to the team as a freshman.
“They have a lot of talented golfers on the team and I'm looking forward to the challenge,” she said.”
