The leader of AK Steel will present the keynote address at an industry trade show next month.

Roger Newport, AK Steel chief executive officer, will present the address at the AIST President’s Award Breakfast on May 8 in Philadelphia. The event is part of AISTech 2018, North America’s preeminent trade show.

Newport’s speech — titled “Providing Innovative and Sustainable Steel Solutions” — will discuss how the company is changing and adapting to new consumer demands, and how the industry is driving alternative and sustainable steel products.

“I am excited to discuss the innovative steel solutions we are creating as our researchers anticipate the future needs of our customers and their customers,” Newport said. “As we execute on our strategy, and as the only U.S. producer of carbon, stainless and electrical steel products, we are well positioned to bring the broadest range of product solutions to our customers.”

In addition to the keynote address, attendees of the President’s Breakfast also will hear from AIST president Randy Skagen, vice president and general manager, Nucor Steel Tuscaloosa Inc., who will be presenting several association awards, including AIST’s Steelmaker of the Year. In 2017, Newport received this award for his “strategic and dynamic leadership.”

In addition to the breakfast, AISTech 2018 will include the annual technology conference, which will feature more than 550 technical presentations on a wide variety of aspects of iron and steel manufacturing technology.
