Top award winners with the Butler High School boys basketball team in 1970-1971 were, from left, Ken Gilliland, Darian Tenace, Ed Deichman and John Angell. Gilliland was the Most Improved Player among the JVs; Tenace received the Hustle Award; Deichman was selected MVP, won the Best Rebound Award and the Best Foul Shot trophy, sinking 84 of 153 for a 63.0 percent; and Angell had the best field goal percentage of 53.0, 82 of 162. The recognition banquet was held March 20, 1971, at the Horn of Plenty under the sponsorship of the Mother’s Club.
