Passengers injured in 2-vehicle rollover crash

Two people were injured in a two-car accident on Whitestown Road in Butler Township Sunday afternoon. Police said the driver of a sedan swerved into the oncoming lane, causing this vehicle to overturn after being sideswiped.

BUTLER TWP — A man and a woman suffered minor injuries in a rollover accident around 12:30 p.m. Sunday on Whitestown Road.

Witnesses said a man driving a Pontiac sedan westbound just past the intersection with Fairground Hill Road swerved in front of an eastbound Chevrolet Equinox SUV, causing the accident.

The two vehicles avoided a head-on collision, but the SUV rolled onto its roof after the two vehicles sideswiped each other.

Several good Samaritans, who declined to be named, said that they helped pry open the doors of the overturned SUV and free the occupants.

Butler Township police were investigating and had a man in custody at the scene of the accident.

An officer confirmed that two people suffered minor injuries and were taken to Butler Memorial Hospital by Butler Ambulance Service. He declined to comment on the cause of the accident.

The SUV was towed away by a flatbed truck. Butler Township Volunteer Fire District Station 3 responded to clean up debris from the accident. Whitestown Road was closed in both directions for about one hour Sunday.
