An alleged stash of marijuana hidden in a home's attic landed a Butler County Prison inmate in more trouble with the law, authorities said.

Daniel N. Cervone, 24, of Butler is already behind bars on charges stemming from a suspected home invasion at a Summit Township home last month.

State police, after arresting Cervone in the alleged burglary and robbery Feb. 11, obtained a search warrant for his then house in the 300 block of East Brady Street.

Troopers on Feb. 12 seized a number of items, according to court documents, including clothing, a cell phone and suspected drug contraband.

While searching the attic, police said they discovered a Ziploc bag containing 228 grams — a little more than a half pound— of marijuana.

Also in the attic was a FoodSaver machine and empty vacuum sealed bags.

Under state law, a small amount of marijuana is defined as being no more than 30 grams, or a little more than an ounce. More than 30 grams can be a misdemeanor or a felony.

Police charged Cervone with both felony and misdemeanor possession. His arraignment is pending.

He is in the county prison on $500,000 bail on charges of robbery, trespass and theft in connection with last month's alleged crime in Summit Township and is awaiting trial.

Investigators suspect Cervone and three other males, brandishing handguns, forced their way into a trailer home on Hyvue Lane and stole $60, a pair of cell phones and a pack of cigarettes.

A family of four — including two young children — were at the home but no one was injured.

Police said they have not identified the others who were with him and no one else has been arrested in the investigation.
