A Butler man pleaded guilty to a summary charge and was sentenced to fines in Butler County Court Tuesday, after being charged with endangering his 3-week-old son and punching his girlfriend during a domestic dispute in February 2017.

Raymond A. Preston, 30, pleaded guilty to summary harassment and was immediately sentenced by President Judge Thomas Doerr to pay court costs and a $100 fine. Preston was initially charged with misdemeanor child endangerment, terroristic threats, reckless endangerment, simple assault and two counts of summary harassment after an incident at the couple's home in the Port-O-Call trailer park on Trinidad Street on Feb. 20, 2017.

The remaining charges were dismissed as part of the plea.

Penn Township police said the victim recounted that Preston had gotten angry when she awakened him from sleep to nurse their baby, according to court documents.

He then grabbed her left breast and did not let go, before punching her and kicking the cradle in which the baby was lying.

Later, documents said, Preston got a knife and “started cutting himself and stabbed himself in the leg.” He also threatened to kill himself and the woman's father, police said.

The woman told police that when she sat down on the couch while holding the baby, Preston grabbed at the child and tried to take the little boy out of her arms.

She suffered minor injuries, including swelling to her right eye and left hand. The baby apparently was not hurt.
