The boyfriend of an East Butler woman who allegedly overdosed while seven months pregnant was sentenced to state prison Tuesday in Butler County Court.

Andrew W. Lucas, 37, was sentenced to two to five years in a state correctional facility by Judge William Shaffer.

He was also ordered to pay court costs.

Lucas pleaded guilty to felony possession with intent to deliver a controlled substance, misdemeanor recklessly endangering another person and possession of paraphernalia in two cases.

The felony charge stems from an incident May 19 on Oak Alley in East Butler, where members of the Butler County Drug Task Force say he sold 10 stamp bags of heroin to an informant for $70.

The endangerment and paraphernalia charges stem from an incident June 22, where police allege Lucas' girlfriend — Kasey R. Dischman, 30, of Butler — overdosed on heroin at the couple's home on 10th Street in East Butler. Dischman was seven months pregnant at the time.

Police said the couple's 8-year-old daughter was home at the time, leading to the charges.

Lucas called 911 and reported finding Dischman unresponsive in the bathroom. When EMS personnel arrived, Lucas allegedly lied about what happened to Dischman, claiming she had a seizure disorder and that she did not use drugs. He also denied moving anything or destroying evidence, according to court documents.

That overdose prompted an emergency response, with Dischman giving birth via cesarean section and the baby, a girl, suffering “lasting injuries,” according to court records.

Because of what Lucas told first-responders, emergency crews did not administer the opioid antidote Narcan, which would have been crucial in directly treating Dischman and indirectly her unborn child.

Dischman was also charged in that case and is awaiting further court proceedings.

“I want to apologize to the court and to my family,” Lucas said during the proceeding.
