CLEARFIELD TWP — A 35-year-old township man was arrested over the weekend in connection with two unrelated criminal cases — one for a domestic incident at his home and the other for a home invasion in Summit Township.

State police in the most recent incident accused Basil A. Luchkiw of assaulting a woman shortly after 1 a.m. Sunday at his home on the 200 block of Criley Road in Clearfield Township.

The couple had gotten into an argument, police said, during which the Luchkiw punched the woman in the left side of the head. He also allegedly slammed her to the ground, pulled her hair and choked her.

An East Butler Ambulance crew treated the woman at the scene.

Luchkiw was placed in Butler County Prison to await arraignment. At 8 a.m. Sunday, District Judge Wayne Seibel arraigned him by video on a misdemeanor charge of simple assault and a summary charge of harassment.

Luchkiw was given recognizance bond. But before he got out of prison, state police filed separate, more serious charges in connection with an alleged home invasion last week in the 600 block of Great Belt Road in Summit Township.

Police said Luchkiw in that case shortly before 9:50 p.m. Feb. 13 broke into the front door of a home in Summit Township. He is accused of punching and hitting a man in the head with a living room lamp. He then fled.

When troopers got to the home, according to court documents, they found the victim with “blood all through his hair and bruising on his face.”

The man needed six staples, police said, to close the wound on the right side of his head.

Seibel about 8 p.m. Sunday arraigned Luchkiw by video on felony charges of aggravated assault, burglary and trespass, and a misdemeanor charge of simple assault and a summary charge of harassment.

He was released from prison after posting bail of $5,000.
