Butler closes with 69-61 win at Armstrong

Slippery Rock girls wrap up Region 5 title

Ethan Morton produced a triple-double in Butler’s regular season finale Monday night as the Golden Tornado boys basketball team won at Armstrong, 69-61.

Morton tallied 12 points, 10 rebounds and 10 assists. Luke Michalek led Butler (18-4) with 13 points.

“This was a nice win for us after taking a couple of tough losses last week,” Butler coach Matt Clement said. “Armstrong is a team that likes to slow it down and play in the 40’s.

“I’m sure our 69 points are among the most they’ve given up.”

The game was close in the fourth quarter before the Tornado pulled away late.

Dawson Porter led Armstrong with 22 points.

Butler will learn its playoff seeding and opponent in WPIAL 6A at the postseason meeting Tuesday night.

“I project us bring a No. 7 or 8 seed,” Clement said. “Our likely first-round opponent is Latrobe, Canon-McMillan or Bethel Park, but you never know.”
