Regional grazing conference features informative speakers

The Mountains-to-Bay Grazing Alliance will be hosting a regional grazing conference in Boonsboro, Md., on Jan. 11.

The event will feature Gabe Brown, a well-known rancher and farmer from North Dakota, and Nicole Masters from Integrity Soils in New Zealand.

Brown will speak about regenerative agriculture farming that integrates animals, crops, and multispecies cover crops.

Masters will explain how to improve your soil so you can reduce or eliminate the need for purchased inputs.

The day also will feature a local farmer panel. This is an opportunity to hear speakers who are at the forefront of the soil health movement.

The soil health principles Brown implements on his farm allow him to turn a great profit with little inputs while only receiving 15 inches of precipitation per year.

The event runs from 9:30 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. and is drivable from the Butler area.

The cost to attend is $12 and includes lunch.

Interested persons are encouraged to make the trip to hear both of these speakers. The principles Brown uses on his operation work in our part of Pennsylvania and can really open up a farm’s potential.
