[naviga:h3]BC3 basketball falls in openers[/naviga:h3]

BUTLER TWP — The Butler County Community College men’s and women’s basketball teams dropped their respective season openers Tuesday night at the BC3 Fieldhouse.

Allegany College (Md.) defeated the Pioneer men, 128-84. Joel Stutz led BC3 with 31 points, eight rebounds and five assists. Jordan Sager had 14 points, Kaden Rock 11 and Justice Lewandowski seven rebounds.

Mackenzie Craig scored 35 points and grabbed 23 rebounds, but the BC3 women fell to Allegany, 77-74. Carly Burdett had 16 points and Lydia Roth 10 assists.

Both Pioneer sdquads play in the Garrett (Md.) College Tournament Friday and Saturday.

[naviga:h3]KC’s Hegedus nets volleyball honors[/naviga:h3]

KARNS CITY — Karns City senior middle hitter Emily Hegedus has been named third team All-KSAC this season.

Hegedus has also been named to the District 9 Class 2A Pennsylvania Volleyball Coaches Association All-Star team.

[naviga:h3]Hardman wins gold in fencing tourney[/naviga:h3]

CRANBERRY TWP — Cranberry Township resident and Aquinas Academy fencer Harry Hardman won a gold medal at the recent UFO “Pools to Pools to Pools” Senior Mixed Foil Competition in Livonia, Mich.

The win earned Hardman a U.S. Fencing Association “C” rating, placing him in one of the top tiers in the USFA national ranking system.

Only six percent of all USFA rated fencers in Western Pennsylvania maintain a rating of C or above. Hardman, 17-1 in the competition, is now eligible to fence in Division I North American Cup competitions.
