Helen C. Christy, 90, of Butler passed away Wednesday at the Lowrie Place.

She was born Feb. 15, 1927, in Meridian to the late Abraham Osmond Gillis and Lois Smith Gillis.

Helen was a retired cook for Butler County Daycare Center. She made beautiful wedding cakes for friends and family. Helen loved gardening and birds and was involved with the Myasthenia Gravis Support Group. She was a former member of Meridian United Presbyterian Church. Helen played bass drum for the original Meridian Woodpecker Fife and Drum Corps.

She is survived by three sons, Lorain (Pat Weber) Christy Jr., James (Karen) Christy; Dwayne (Heidi Holoweckyj) Christy; two daughters, Carolyn (Charles Caraballo) Christy and Penny (Dino) Bearer; nine grandchildren; nineteen great-grandchildren; six great-great-grandchildren; and one brother, Edward Gillis.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband of 60 years, Lorain R. “Cy” Christy Sr.; and by four siblings.

CHRISTY — Friends of Helen C. Christy, who died Wednesday, Oct. 4, 2017, will be received from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. Friday at Thompson-Miller Funeral Home, 124 E. North St., Butler. Funeral services will be held at 1:30 p.m. Saturday, also at the funeral home, with the Rev. Jeffrey Potter of Parkwood United Presbyterian Church officiating. Burial will take place at the Greenlawn Burial Estates.Memorial donations may be made to the Myasthenia Gravis Association of Western PA, 490 E.
