HARRISBURG — The Pennsylvania Capitol will be lit in the colors of the Nevada flag — blue, gold and green — as a gesture of solidarity with the people of that state following the mass shooting at a Las Vegas country music concert.

Gov. Tom Wolf’s office said the gesture will occur Monday night as a way to honor the shooting’s hundreds of victims.

HARRISBURG — A Republican state senator running for governor has been recorded telling a crowd that he’s urged House Appropriations Committee Chairman Stan Saylor to block a tax on Marcellus Shale natural gas production to hurt Democratic Gov. Tom Wolf’s re-election chances.

Scott Wagner’s comments were recorded Sept. 14 at a York County event by a Democratic Party tracker.

On the recording, Wagner says, “I said, ‘Stan you cannot let this severance tax get through and it gets to the governor’s’ desk, because if that happens the governor is going to get re-elected. Stan, you take that to the bank.’”

Wagner’s campaign didn’t challenge the recording’s authenticity. Saylor and other House Republican leaders oppose severance tax legislation as part of a budget deal.

[naviga:h3]Troopers shoot knife-wielding man[/naviga:h3]

WASHINGTON, Pa. — State troopers fatally shot a Pennsylvania man who reportedly had a knife and was threatening neighbors, but his family said the man was merely suicidal.

Killed was 34-year-old Anthony Gallo, whose family says he’s been acting strangely since injuring his head in a May car accident. They called 911 hoping troopers would get him a mental health commitment about 4 p.m. Sunday at the trailer park in Canton Township where he’d been staying with his grandmother.

Washington County Coroner Tim Warco says troopers fired when Gallo refused to drop the knife and aggressively moved toward police.
