Grove City wins 2nd straight, 21-14

WAYNESBURG — Grove City College rushed for 237 yards on the day and possessed the football for more than 19 minutes in the second half Saturday in a 21-14 victory at Waynesburg.

The victory was the second straight for the Wolverines (2-3, 2-1), who snapped a 33-game losing streak the previous week.

Sophomore running back Wesley Schools carried 33 times for 163 yards while quarterback Randall Labrie had 76 yards on the ground. Labrie scored on a 1-yard run with 2:26 left in the third quarter to snap a 14-14 tie.

Labrie’s score capped a 19-play, 86-yard drive that ate 9:24 off the clock.

Labrie tossed an 18-yard TD pass to freshman receiver Cody Gustafson for the Wolverines’ first score of the game. A 3-yard scoring run by Schools capped a 75-yard drive for Grove City’s second touchdown.

Grove City ended each of Waynesburg’s final three possessions with interceptions. Jacob Ross, Jackson McFall and Kyle Beyer had the thefts.

The Wolverines host Thomas More at 2 p.m. Saturday at Robert E. Thorn Field.

Volleyball[/naviga:h3] Butler County Community College won a pair of matches over the weekend, defeating Anne Arundel 3-0 (25-11, 25-8, 25-11) and Westmoreland 3-0 (25-12, 25-15. 25-19). Emily Magusiak had six kills, Makenzie Craig five kills, Brittany Bianco 21 assists and five kills, Haley Caldwell 13 digs for BC3 against Anne Arundel. Autumn Rodgers had 10 kills, Magusiak eight kills, Alexis Schmeider eight kills and Bianco 37 assists and 16 digs vs. Westmoreland. BC3 (10-3, 5-1) travels to Mercyhurst North East for a 6 p.m. match Monday. Shippensburg 3, Slippery Rock 0 — The Rock (8-8, 0-4) lost 25-18, 25-18, 25-22 Saturday at Morrow Field House. Brooke Bostwick had 10 kills while Erinn Kahoe had seven kills in a losing cause. The Rock hosts California (Pa.) on Friday. [naviga:h3]Field Hockey[/naviga:h3] Kailee Krupski scored the winning goal in the 64th minute Saturday as Slippery Rock defeated No. 5 Kutztown, 3-2, at Mihalik-Thompson Stadium. Kayla Ulrich scored two goals for SRU (8-3, 3-0), which won its fourth straight game. Kayla Mack had two assists. The Rock travels to Mansfield for a 4 p.m. game Tuesday. [naviga:h3]Men’s Soccer[/naviga:h3] Tyler McCarthy scored his second goal of the season, but Slippery Rock dropped a 3-1 decision at East Stroudsburg. [naviga:h3]Golf[/naviga:h3] Butler County Community College improved to 12-1 by shooting a 311 at Valley Green over the weekend. Westmoreland shot 327 and Penn State-Fayette 330. Tyler Good was medalist with a 74. A-C Valley graduate Noah Morgan shot 75, Butler grad Anthony Lewis had a 79. The Pioneers host four teams Tuesday.
